THE BEGINNING
We can trace our roots all the way back to 1829, when two English immigrants and expert woodworkers opened a factory in Dayton, Ohio. The company initially produced hand-carved wooden shoe lasts, pioneering a new lathe-based technique for producing lasts faster and more accurately.
INTO GOLF
From 1875 to 1897, the company began a transformation. John McGregor, an expat from St Andrews, Scotland, and Edward Canby joined the partnership. In 1897, the company began manufacturing traditional golf shafts and clubs, becoming one of America's very first club manufacturers.
THE GOLDEN ERA
MacGregor emerged as a dominant force in golf, working with legendary players including Tommy Armour, Toney Penna, Jimmy Demaret, Byron Nelson, and Ben Hogan. This period of innovation and growth led to the company's most iconic partnership with Jack Nicklaus, who became deeply involved in the management and direction of the company.
